A close friend and his brother owned this club and Joni headlined the opening night. I took a long sought after date. We were placed front and center... Joni came out and I fell in love.... Never spoke to my date and then made her stay for the second set. To this day, one of my most memorable concerts. Joni is one of very very few artists whose lyrics I actually listen to for content. Have to say... my favorite Joni album is without doubt Hejira.

I can't recall the physical space except to remember a feeling of warmth. It's was like being in your own living room with your best friend. Joni always seemed to touch those emotions all young women felt. She came out of her "dressing room" to say hi to folks. Such wonderful memories.

I was in the front row, I was 15, I thought the club was called "The Red Balloon" but I think that's because I saw Tim Hardin there too. Joni Mitchell was a cool stream and a warm blanket that has run through my life for 45 years... always there when I needed her to calm me down, remind me of ocean, bring me to a place that felt "beautiful".
