THE chance to become editor of the Evening News for a day is among the lots up for grabs at a charity auction in aid of famine-torn Ethiopia.
Also going under the hammer will be the chance to spend half a day with the firefighters at Norwich Fire Station, and a home visit from a chef at The Last Wine Bar who will prepare dinner for four.
The auction at the Open Centre, in the former Barclays building on Bank Plain, offers bidders a great opportunity to seize a unique or unusual gift for Christmas.
Other lots include a fabulous evening gown designed by Sybilla Sorondo-Myelzwynska for film star Emma Thompson's appearance at the Venice Film Festival.
BBC Radio Norfolk's Roy Waller is hosting the event, which is being staged to raise funds to help the inhabitants of Menge, a district in Ethiopia.
The auction follows the two Beat the Famine concerts in September at Norwich Playhouse, which raised almost £6,000 to help fund Oxfam's work in the country.
The organiser of the concerts and the auction is Simon Middleton, who said he was delighted by the response of local businesses.
"When we first hit upon the idea of the auction to support the concerts I was a little concerned that we would not get enough variety to appeal to everyone," he said.
"But I needn't have worried. The range of gifts and experiences that we have on offer is fantastic, from a one-off pencil portrait of your pet dog to a unique chance for two people to sit in on Roy Waller's show on BBC Radio Norfolk."
Mr Middleton is hoping that the auction will give a real push to the amount of money that he and his friends can send off to Oxfam.
"Our aim is to raise as much money as possible to send to the people in Menge for things such as new school buildings and equipment as well as to fund HIV/Aids awareness programmes for adults.
"While doing that we hope to provide people in Norwich the chance to experience something new and different too."
The auction will be held on Friday, December 3. Doors will open at 7pm and the auction will start at 8pm.
