Major Music Memorabilia Auction Brings In Over $3.5 million

NEW YORK, NEW YORK.....Monday, May 19, 2014....Julien's Auctions, the world's premier music and entertainment memorabilia auction house, held the highly anticipated Music Icons, Rebels and Legends auction event at the Hard Rock Café New York on Saturday, May 17, 2014. The packed house began bidding against phone and online bidders at 10:00 a.m. Eastern Time which was only the beginning of an auction that lasted past 9:00 p.m. Eastern Time. The over 700 lots went to collectors and fans from around the world.

George Harrison's 1962 Rickenbacker 425 guitar purchased by the Beatle in 1963 sold for $657,000 during fast and furious bidding from in the room and on the phone. The guitar was originally purchased at Fenton's Music store and refinished by the owner from a Fireglo finish to the black George requested to match John Lennon's similar Rickenbacker.

Also the Beatles First State Butcher Arm album sleeve sold for $31,500. Other major highlights of today's auction included Lady Gaga's 1990 Red Rolls-Royce Corniche III luxury automobile which sold for $125,000, Elvis Presley's 1955 contract with Colonel Tom Park which sold for $93,750, Johnny Cash's Martin Acoustic guitar which sold for $12,500, The Beatles signed merchandising poster which sold for $11,875, Steve Tyler's organ used to write "Dream On" which sold for $28,125, Lady Gaga Philip Treacy designed headpiece which sold for $13,750, Elvis Presley gifted necklace to "Dr. Nick" which sold for $31,875, Janis Joplin owned and worn ring which sold for $15,000, Joni Mitchell staged used guitar which sold for $31,250 and Elvis Presley's white jumpsuit which sold for $197,000.

More highlights included Rhianna's stage worn dress which sold for $10,710, Madonna's worn "Health" t-shirt and film worn shoes which sold for $15,000, an Andy Warhol signed Bender guitar which sold for $28,125, a Jerry Garcia original painting which sold for $12,500 and Elvis Presley's Jailhouse Rock Shirt which sold for $21,250.

Closing out the night was a collection of Beatles memorabilia including the John Lennon and Yoko Ono original signed "Bed-In" drawing which sold for $187,500 and Paul McCartney's played Hofner Bass which sold for $125,000. The Music Icons, Legends and Rebels Auction raised over $3.5 million. 100% percent of the proceeds from the sale of Lady Gaga's Rolls-Royce will benefit MusiCares.
