JONI MITCHELL HUNTS FOR DAUGHTER

HELLO!
November 1, 1997

Singer Joni Mitchell is desperately searching for the daughter she gave up for adoption 32 years ago. Then a penniless art student, Joni decided against keeping the baby girl, whom she and her boyfriend at the time named Kelly.

But now Joni, 52, wants to be reunited with her daughter because her health is failing. The singer had polio as a child and is now suffering from post-polio syndrome. She also wants to giver her elderly parents the chance to meet their grandchild.

Joni's search has prompted the child's father, Brad MacMath, 56, to reveal his identity. Until now, Joni has refused to disclose his name.

Brad says, "Joni definitely wanted the child — abortion was never an issue. I haven't talked about it before because I didn't want to hurt her career."
