Folk singer Joni Mitchell's friend has issued a public announcement that the singer-writer is still unconscious and unable to make medical decision for herself. Mitchell, 71, was found unconscious in her home on March 31.

Leslie Morris has filed a petition on Tuesday in court to be legally acknowledged as the singer's advocate and conservator. According to Morris, she has no intention to have control over the possessions and estate of the singer who is her friend for more than 44 years. Since Mitchell has no family to be her conservator, she is willing to be an advocate for the unconscious singer, CBS News reports.

TMZ reports that the singer, who is admitted in UCLA Medical Center, had one document to describe her, "At this time, she remains unconscious and unable to make any responses , and is therefore unable to provide for any of her personal needs."

However, a statement was posted in her website on Tuesday which updates the public on the health condition of Mitchell which is contrary to what documents say. It says, "Contrary to rumors circulating on the Internet today, Joni is not in a coma. Joni is still in the hospital - but she comprehends, she's alert, and she has her full senses. A full recovery is expected. The document obtained by a certain media outlet simply gives her longtime friend Leslie Morris the authority - in the absence of 24-hour doctor care - to make care decisions for Joni once she leaves the hospital. As we all know, Joni is a strong-willed woman and is nowhere near giving up the fight. Please continue to keep Joni in your thoughts."

Mitchell has been vocal about her mysterious disease called Morgellons disease which is characterized by a skin disorder that entails sores, crawling sensations on and under the skin, and fiber-like filaments emerging from the sores. She described it as a 'terrorist disease and a silent killer'.

She is the voice behind award-winning songs like "River", "Both Sides", and "Big Yellow Taxi".
