Man To Man

Guitar chords transcribed by Howard Wright
Tuning: DACFGC   "Joni" Tuning: D73525

Joni's acoustic part is played on a 12-string guitar, which gives some
high notes from some of the "bass strings", where the higher-pitched
string that is next to each bass string gives a note one octave up.
The part works fine on an ordinary six-string though.

The basic strum pattern for each bar is shown below. The count of the
four quarter note beats is at the top, the next line shows the length
of each strum or rest (q = quarter note, e = eighth note), and the third
line shows the strums, percussive taps (x) or rests (-).

  1 & 2 & 3 & 4 &
  q q e e q
strum x - strum -

The first strum is a downstroke on the lower strings, and the second
strum is an upstroke that accents the high strings. For the quieter
second verse, the percussive tap on the 2nd quarter note is omitted and
the first strum is left to sustain longer.

As well as Joni's acoustic guitar part, there is an electric guitar part
in standard tuning. I've written out what this electric guitar plays (in
tablature) for the intro and between-verse sections. For these tablature
parts the two lines (acoustic at the top, electric at the bottom) play at
the same time.

<12> indicates natural harmonic at the 12th fret.
 / = slide up
 \ = slide down

Verse 2:
---------
(Chords as Verse 1)

Sometimes it's easy
You drift with the empty gladness
Like it all belongs
Sometimes it's low down sadness
Like it's all gone so wrong
When I saw you standing there
I said to myself
Mmm here's a place
I could break down and care
I'll give him my sweet love
Taste his sweet love
Real sweet love
Woman to man

Verse 3:
---------
(Chords as Verse 1)

I don't like to lie
But I sure can be phony when I get scared
I stick my nose up in the air
Stoney, stoney when I get scared
And when I saw you standing there
I was scared , I thought
Ooh, I hope he can care
I sure hope I can care
Hope we can really care
and share
