James Taylor, Chaka Kahn, Michael Bublé, Isabelle Boulay and Patrick Bruel to perform at the Canadian Songwriters Hall of Fame 4th Annual Gala

CBC Television to Broadcast 2007 gala highlights on Monday, March 5, 2007

TORONTO - JANUARY 10, 2007 - Internationally renowned artists James Taylor, Chaka Kahn, Michael Bublé, Isabelle Boulay and Patrick Bruel will join some of Canada's biggest performers to honour this year's songwriter and song inductees at the Canadian Songwriters Hall of Fame 4th Annual Gala on Sunday, January 28, 2007 at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre.

Also confirmed to perform at this year's Canadian Songwriters Hall of Fame Gala are: Emm Gryner, Corb Lund, George Canyon, Measha Brueggergosman, David Clayton-Thomas, Karkwa, Marc-André Fortin, Laurence Jalbert, Mario Pelchat, Marie-Eve Janvier and Florence K.

"We have some of the biggest names in the business coming to honour Canadian songwriters this year. This is a true testament to the impact our songwriters have made around the world," said CSHF Executive Director Jody Scotchmer. "I'm anticipating that these rare musical tributes and collaborations will have audiences on their feet again this year."

Singer/songwriter James Taylor will pay tribute to Joni Mitchell with a performance of one of her five inducted songs, "Woodstock," while Canadian soprano Measha Brueggergosman will enchant with her rendition of Mitchell's classic hit "Both Sides Now."

Funk-pop legend Chaka Kahn will perform "Help Me," one of Mitchell's most distinctive and enduring melodies.

In a tribute to Quebec icon Jean-Pierre Ferland, internationally acclaimed Patrick Bruel will perform "Je reviens chez nous," broadcast from Paris, France via video.

Laurence Jalbert and Mario Pelchat will perform Ferland's enchanting duet which he wrote with Jean-Pierre Lauzon, "T'es mon amour, t'es ma maîtresse."

Megastar Isabelle Boulay is sure to delight with Ferland's "Un peu plus haut, un peu plus loin."

The 4th Annual CSHF Gala, hosted by Andrew Craig of CBC Radio Two's In Performance and Sophie Durocher of Radio-Canada's Espace Musique, will be broadcast nationally on Monday, January 29, 2007 on CBC Radio One, from 11 a.m. to noon and on CBC Radio Two from 8 to 10 p.m.

As well, Espace Musique will air highlights during their morning show from 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.

CBC Television will broadcast Words to Music: The Canadian Songwriters Hall of Fame on Monday, March 5, 2007 at 8 p.m. (8:30 p.m. NT), including musical salutes to Modern Era inductee Joni Mitchell and Radio Era inductee Wilf Carter.

The CSHF Gala co-executive producers are Peter Steinmetz and Jody Scotchmer.

Returning to the CSHF as the 4th Annual Gala producer and writer is David Kitching.

Together, their work on the 3rd Annual Gala earned three Gemini nominations, including "Best Music Variety Program or Series."

Last year's momentous gala special also brought a prestigious Gemini Award to k.d. lang for her heart-wrenching delivery of Leonard Cohen's "Hallelujah."

Joining last year's legendary inductees Leonard Cohen and Gilles Vigneault, the 2007 CSHF songwriter inductees are: Broadway and film score creator Raymond Egan (The Pioneers), the father of Canadian country music Wilf Carter aka "Montana Slim" (Radio Era), confessional songstress Joni Mitchell and passionate Quebec artist Jean-Pierre Ferland (Modern Era).

The CSHF will bestow the Canadian Music Publishers Association (CMPA) Legacy Award to one of Canada's most prolific vocal artists, Canadian tenor, Henry Burr.

A second legacy award, now called The Prix du Patrimoine Frank Davies after the founder of the CSHF, will be awarded to Canadian folk music impresario, Sam Gesser.

Among the 25 songs being inducted this year are Canadian classics:

- "Spinning Wheel" by David Clayton-Thomas who will perform his own classic at the Gala
- "Comme j'ai toujours envie d'aimer" (Marc Hamilton)
- "You Were On My Mind" (Sylvia Fricker Tyson)
- "Un Canadien errant" (Antoine Gérin-Lajoie)
- "How About You?" (Ralph Freed, Burton Lane)
- "Dans nos vieilles maisons" (Muriel Millard)
- Georges Langford's "Le Frigidaire" which will be sung by quirky Quebec rockers Karkwa
