...In the unlikely vein, the year saw Melanie emerge a star with "Candles in the Rain" and a couple of best selling albums. not everybody'scup of tea, Melanie's husky voice and gentle touch re in the Edith Piaf - Eartha Kitt tradition. Melanie was by no means the only female to grace the charts with formidable talent.
Joni Mitchell's finest album, "Ladies of the Canyon," glowed and grew on you with each playing. Joni Mitchell, fascinating siren, chronicler of young adulthood's pain is a major poet of 1970.
Laura Nyro dispensed her magic with personal appearances in Los Angeles as well as the magnificient "Christmas and the Beads of Sweat."
Judy Collins, as delightful as ever, brought some of the year's more glowing moments into the house with "Whales and Nightingales."
