Michael Poole writes: Joni's performance in Birmingham, England in 1967 was at the Jug O' Punch Folk Club in Digbeth Civic Hall (not Town Hall), run by the Ian Campbell Folk Group - I know because I was there.
I remember long blond hair, a pink or purple short dress, an enormous guitar and an even bigger voice. She was certainly something different to the normal girl singers who came to the club. I don't have a program of what Joni sang, but I can remember that she sang 'The Circle Game' (which was a big favourite at the time), 'Both Sides Now', 'Urge For Going' (my own personal favourite) and 'Tin Ange'l. You can imagine the disappointment we felt when none of these were on Song To A Seagull!. I can't confirm the exact date, but I know it was a Thursday in September 1967. It was after I left college and before I started in my first job.
