Saint Laurent continues its tradition of featuring musicians in campaigns with the announcement of Joni Mitchell as its latest model. The iconic Canadian singer-songwriter appears in three images wearing the same Saint Laurent "folk tunic," a custom leather cape and wide brimmed hat while strumming the guitar. As one of the defining voices of the 1970s, Mitchell is a fitting subject alongside the brand's already-released campaign, with its folksy Woodstock aesthetic. The eight-time Grammy winner is widely regarded as one of the greatest songwriters of all time and, much like Yves Saint Laurent, she has influenced many who have followed her in her field.

The campaign is part of the Saint Laurent Music Project, which has seen genre or decade-defining musicians such as Marianne Faithfull, Kim Gordon, Chuck Berry, Marilyn Manson and Courtney Love pose for Slimane's lens in the past.

It's also interesting that this campaign comes just two days after CĂ©line revealed that author Joan Didion was its latest model, confirming that cool, accomplished women over 70 (Mitchell is 71, Didion is 80) are having a serious moment in fashion right now.
