The organizers of this year's Mariposa Folk Festival are bracing themselves for a lot of trouble they don't expect.

The fourth annual folk singing weekend has been covered by a $1,000,000 insurance policy against property damage and public liability, and a 300-man security force will be in attendance throughout the festival.

"We're prepared for trouble," Randy Ferris, an executive of the non-profit organization, said. "But we don't expect any," he quickly added.

The festival was the scene of rowdyism in 1963, and last year had to be held in a baseball stadium because townships were reluctant to have the event in their areas.

But 1965 will tell a different story says Ferris. Unless it rains. The festival has dropped its rain insurance this year.

Whatever happens, the best of arrangements have been made. The festival will be held on the shores of Innis Lake about 1½ miles northwest of Caledon East. Featured performers will be Ian and Sylvia, Gordon Lightfoot, John Hammond, the Country Gentlemen, Phil Ochs, the Allen‑Ward trio, the Dirty Shames - 20 acts in all.

The concert area covers about 22 acres, not including the 25-acre lake. The parking area is about 111 acres, enough for 5,000 cars.

After the concerts, the security force will patrol nearby fields and farms for campers, and send them packing. The nearest accommodation available is in Bolton, and on Highways 27 and 50 where there are a number of motels.

A park and playground will be available for youngsters and during the day patrons can swim in the lake under lifeguard supervision. Food, picnic, and sanitary facilities will be available, and if it rains, the concerts will be held in a large pavilion.

The Friday concert at 9 p.m. will feature Gordon Lightfoot, the Allen‑Ward trio, York County Boys, Elyseo Weinberg, the Dirty Shames, Wade Hemsworth and John Hammond.

On Saturday, between 11:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m., a children's concert will feature Sharon Trostin and Jerry Gray. This will be followed by a guitar workshop, a banjo and mandolin workshop, a composers seminar and a blues and ballad workshop.

At 9 p.m. the concert will feature Ian and Sylvia, the Country Gentlemen, Phil Ochs, Joni Anderson, Son House, Bill Price, and the Dirty Shames. The Sunday afternoon concert will feature many of the same performers.

This year's festival has been officially approved by Albion Township, the festival's key phrase: "It's Politically Approved."
