The new Joni Mitchell album is out: it's called MINGUS. Recorded here in New York at the Electric Lady studios, the record salutes Charlie Mingus, the late (and great) jazz composer. With two exceptions, the music is Mingus', the lyrics Mitchell's. When Joni was in town recording MINGUS, people would bump into her all the time. But not all that many recognized the comely Canadian musician. Joni is really one of a kind. No puffery or press agent trip with her. By the way, Miss Mitchell recently returned to the performing stage with two benefit shows in California and is now ready to begin a full-scale tour the first week of August. Welcome back, Joni.
