Guitar tablature transcribed by Howard Wright
From the guitar version on "Shadows and Light"
/ indicates a slide
<> indicates harmonics (e.g <7> is a 7th fret harmonic)
I've written the words underneath the tablature. Sometimes I've missed out some words to make sure that the words match up with the right part of the tablature; in these places I've put ... to indicate that there are one or two missing words. The chord names are written above the tablature - chord shapes given at the end.
The tablature for the second and third verses is very similar to that for the first verse, so just repeat the tab for the first verse.
There is quite a lot of "string slapping" in this song. This is where Joni hits the strings with her right hand to get a damped, percussive sound that helps to define the beat. I've marked these with a vertical line of 'x' on the middle four strings. When you try playing it, hit all of the strings with the flesh of your strumming hand to get the right sound. If you're not sure how it should sound, listen to the original version.
