Joni Mitchell Project w/Kiki Ebsen, Studio City CA, Sep 23

Posted September 08, 2016

From the very first time in 1968 she heard “Michael from Mountains” and “Night in the City” from Joni’s first album, “Song to a Seagull,” classic song stylist Kiki Ebsen, then not even a teenager, was so enchanted by the music of Joni Mitchell that she quietly determined she would grow up to become a singer/songwriter, who poured her heart and soul into her own compositions, just like Joni did.

With each subsequent release including “Clouds,” “Ladies of the Canyon,” and onto “Blue,” Kiki discovered the magic of Joni Mitchell’s brilliant lyrics, amazing arrangements, and solid song stylings. Every new album meant a closer look into Mitchell’s deepest core. Ultimately, in 2016, Ebsen created The Joni Mitchell ProjectTM” as an opportunity for Joni-inspired professional musicians to join her in declaring “our respect, regard, and unending appreciation for her gifts.” Concert repertoire includes selections from nine of Mitchell’s albums, from “Song to a Seagull” through “Wild Things Run Fast” (1968–1976).

Says Ebsen, “Joni Mitchell is a brave and fearless explorer of the heart and soul. Her music continues to inspire others. My lifelong appreciation of her creative gifts and performing talents was the impetus for creating my Joni Mitchell ProjectTM.”

On Friday, September 23, at 8 pm, at Vitello’s Upstairs in North Hollywood, California. Four premiere musicians join Kiki (vocals, guitar, piano) for this performance: Grant Geissman (guitar), Terry Wollman (guitar), Steven Lawrence (bass), and Matt Starr (drums). More info here.
