The great Joni Mitchell once noted that all romantics meet the same fate: cynical, drunk, and boring someone in a dark café. But what about a bright, plant-filled bungalow on Sunset Boulevard? The Laurel Canyon - inspired Estrella, a hotly anticipated restaurant that just opened in Los Angeles, gets its name from a Joni Mitchell song and even dedicated one of its cocktails to the musician.

Estrella serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner alongside a creative cocktail list designed by head bartender Gia St. George. Other drinks on the menu include the tequila-based Sex Drugs and Rock 'n' Roll and a spiced-rum, butter-syrup, and citrus blend called the Florence Nightingale.

St. George says her inspiration for the Joni Mitchell was "the classic Brown Derby (bourbon, grapefruit, honey). The idea was to use fall flavors to make it seasonal." But, she adds, you can drink it "any time of year."

Joni Mitchell

2 oz bourbon

1 oz fresh grapefruit juice

1/4 oz fresh lime juice

1/2 oz sweetened pomegranate molasses (1:1 ratio of simple syrup and pomegranate molasses)

Pour all ingredients in a shaker, add ice, and shake to combine all the flavors and chill the cocktail. Strain the cocktail into a stemmed glass (martini, coupe, or Nick & Nora).
