Let the Wind Carry me, like Judgement of the Moon and Stars saw Joni writing songs that included extended interludes that may have grown out of improvised piano excursions, subsequently arranged for woodwinds by her and Tom Scott. Down to You, on the subsequent album, is a further step in this trend culminating a few years later in Paprika Plains, in which a three movement suite is realized with the whole middle movement being instrumental. Notice the wonderful harmonic twists and turns and the call and response between the background vocal "section" and the woodwind "section".
