Joni's comments from the StarArt book: "There were two fellows from a band that had just come off stage and my girlfriend was in the room, so I feminized the guitar by putting her lips and torso into it. The two overlapping figures were moving as I drew them so I showed part of their cross-movement. It makes it look like a two-headed torso but in fact it's two figures passing. Again, it's that principle of worlds occupying worlds, where two worlds overlap so that you are looking in front of you and behind you at the same time. It becomes shorthand for a diary of the moment; I can bring back the realism of the moment, but also my emotions. For instance, the same time I was witnessing them mill around this room I was homesick for California so I had the torso sitting on California hills."
