The Marriage Of Church And State

The Marriage Of Church And State was displayed from October 28 through October 30, 1985 at Geffen Records DOG EAT DOG release party. Billed as "Joni Mitchell-–New Paintings New Songs", the gathering was a benefit for the Museum of Contemporary Art held at The James Corcoran Gallery in Los Angeles. None of the works were for sale at this show.

Joni's comments from the 1988 eclection art exhibition catalog: It was Easter so I crucified two canvases together..."Beverly Hills Wallpaper" and "Mr Rabbit Is Back With The Shit". Later I found the little presidents and stuck them on a flag as the stars they were. Reagan was getting cozy with evangelists. It did not bode well. I hammered the flag to the cross in a private ritual of protest.

From the collection of Robert and Sandra Krasnow.
