To Ellen

Given to Ellen Rowlson at Christmas in 1966. "When she married my cousin, Chuck Mitchell, she spent some time with his family in Michigan and thus with ours since we always gathered at Christmas and Thanksgiving and had a dinner followed by everyone (usually 12 of us) singing. I loved the musical togetherness. Joni gave me the girl with the bird as a Christmas gift at the gathering in 1966. I guess she knew I loved birds. Our family gatherings were always a joy and even more so with Joni. Probably you can tell, but the girl and bird are Joni's work. The design around the edges had been printed on the paper. I thought I should clarify that."
