Often referred to as the greatest contemporary songwriter, Joni has been a huge influence in our lives and music over the years. Joni’s career has spanned over half a century, and in that time, she explored and experimented in many genres of music and made them her own. We have selected some of our favorite Joni songs and aspire to honor the original and explore our individual artistry through her songs. Additionally, we will play some of our own tunes that were directly inspired by Joni Mitchell. Liz Barnez, Rebecca Folsom, and Celeste Krenz will be singing and providing harmony vocals, guitar, and piano. Unfortunately, the Canadian pop icon JONI MITCHELL is far too little known in this country despite being listed by the legendary “Rolling Stone” magazine at number 9 of the 100 best singer/songwriters of all time. We are more familiar with her top hits “This Flight Tonight”, “Big Yellow Taxi”, “Woodstock”, “My Secret Place” and “Both Sides Now”, which are often not associated with her.
With her four excellent musicians, the Stuttgart singer Birgitta Menzer presents all of the artist's favorite songs, and the listener can experience in a magnificent way what it means when Joni Mitchell says about herself:

Robin Adler, and her husband, guitarist Dave Blackburn, have devoted the last 18 years to exploring the fascinating music of the iconic Joni Mitchell, through its many incarnations over the decades.
Together with their band, named Mutts of the Planet after a lyric line in one of Mitchell’s songs, Adler and Blackburn have performed six of Joni’s albums in their entirety, and released two albums of their own of original arrangements. Robin is widely known around the world as one of the premier vocalists to perform Joni Mitchell’s work.

The band features the expressive and soaring voice of Teresa Lorenço. Teresa's vocals pay homage to Joni's sweet, husky, and bell-like voice delivering an emotional journey through Joni's expansive catalog. The mission of the band is to present a show that immerses the audience in an intimate journey through many of Joni's best loved and most powerful songs: a performance beyond mere imitation, to delve into Joni’s musical intensity and genius, to leave audiences entertained, moved, and elated.

Both Sides Now is a theatrical concert that explores the music and lives of long-time friends and one-time lovers, Joni Mitchell and Leonard Cohen. Created by, and starring Robbie Schaefer (Eddie From Ohio) and Danielle Wertz, the cabaret traverses decades alongside songs such as A Case of You, Hallelujah, Big Yellow Taxi, Suzanne, and many more. Both Sides Now is at once a piece of the 60’s and 70’s, and of right now, offering us a story about the messiness of being human, the struggle to stay connected, and the importance of truly seeing one another. Joni Jam celebrates the legendary catalogue of Joni Mitchell’s music with a well- seasoned band and Grove’s pitch-perfect interpretation of Joni’s unique vocals and even a dulcimer (or two).
Touching on the full breadth of Joni’s works – from 1968’s Song to a Seagull to the jazz-tinged records of 1980’s Shadows and Light all the way up to today with 2023's At Newport – this band hits every note.
Grove, a singer-songwriter in her own right, has won several Asbury Music Awards, and has toured throughout the US, the UK and Europe. Having attended Berklee College of Music, she has a true appreciation of Joni’s jazz explorations as well as her folk classics. She has been performing Joni’s songs since she was 15: at Glen Burtnik’s “Summer of Love” concert, at the “One Last Waltz” show at the Pollack Theater , and as a busker on the Asbury Park boardwalk (as Joni once busked in Toronto). The Joni Project formed as a tribute in sound and spirit to Joni Mitchell, one of music’s greatest and most innovative artists. They are quite simply the finest tribute to Joni on the scene today. From the deep folk roots of her musical beginnings, Joni Mitchell’s music has evolved over the years to include elements of funk, rock and the full palette of harmonic colors embodied by modern jazz. Her innovative guitar tunings and brilliantly original chord progressions were paired with beautifully crafted melodies adorned by lyrics of unmatched poetic profundity to create some of the most powerfully enduring and well-loved songs of all time.
The Joni Project is fronted by the remarkable multi-instrumentalist and singer Katie Pearlman. She impressively plays Joni’s songs in their original open guitar tunings. Katie is also known throughout the northeast as a singer/songwriter, as well as for being half of the duo The Grateful Girls, an acoustic tribute to The Grateful Dead. Our longtime ambition to get Zervas & Pepper to the Sound Lounge is bearing fruit! The acclaimed singer-songwriters present 'This Flight Tonight', an intimate acoustic tribute to the music of Joni Mitchell, featuring songs such as 'California', 'Blue', 'Woodstock', 'Both Sides Now', 'Carey', 'Coyote', 'A Case Of You', and many more...with the voice, piano, acoustic guitar and dulcimer front and centre, presenting Mitchell's music as it would have been performed in Joni's early performances.
The carefully crafted set list will feature songs from Joni's million-selling albums such as Clouds, Ladies of the Canyon, For The Roses, Court and Spark, featuring many cuts from her landmark 1971 release Blue.
Zervas & Pepper are Welsh singer-songwriters Paul Zervas and Kathryn Pepper, who have been creating and performing original music for over a decade professionally.
The duo and their recording/touring band enjoy cult success on the UK and European folk/Americana scene and have released five critically-acclaimed studio albums and undertaken countless headline and support tours, receiving strong national and international network radio support throughout their career.
